Starblade by DPRagan Starblade by DPRagan
For some reason I like fork-bowed blade type ships.

I guess it's a Mix of the Eta-5 Frost Star Wars something I saw here that was similar, mixed with my own ideas on engines and cockpits.

I haven't decided if it's a Fighter or a racer, it does include a Laser Ignited Molecular Plasma System and Microwave-Argon-Plasma Engines.

So it can run in an atmosphere if needed.

Very nice!

Actually, this has given me some ideas for an aerial battleship design I've never been quite able to wrap my brain around, and has consequently gotten me to pick up a pencil for the first time in years. Thanks for the inspiration!

Never saw or played that. I did get ideas from another drawing (as posted in comments) and added my own spin to it. :)

Nice! Not surprised you haven't heard of it. It's good, with a still active multiplayer community even after more than a decade. Keep up the awesome work!

glee. don't know why i'm fixating on the note about how it runs in atmosphere as well as space, but i am. and i'm happy to see it.

It's not as maneuverable in an atmosphere. More then the old Space Shuttles less then an atmospheric fighter.

I'm a fan of the fork-bowed design as well.

Mostly because then you can turn the entire ship into one massive railgun. More Dakka and all that.

More likely with a Capital ship then a fighter hehe.

Oh, you can do it with a fighter as well. The gun itself doesn't weigh all that much and the forked bow gives it a built-in mounting for the rails. That's why I like the design. Gives it a bit more punch so it can more effectively harass larger craft.

Mind you, without some sort of FTL transportation Fighters are virtually useless as anything but scouts. Realistic space combat taking place at ridiculous distances after all.

The world takes shortcuts through a smaller "fluid-like dimension" Hyperspace.

Cool ship. ^_^

The design sorta reminds me of the Vic Viper, from the Gradius series. It also had the fork-bladed design, but it was a little pointier, I think.

Awesome design. I'd be more tempted to incline it towards a racer. I have seen similar ships in games like Pyroblazer and F-Zero-X. Wipeout too. Then again, I guess you can only have so many awesome looking craft :D

Looks nice.

Also reminds me that I should at least try to sketch out the Raven, Corsair, and Coroso classes of starships from my own writing, even if I can't draw for crap. Which also means I should prolly be posting some of my writing to DA instead of letting it rot on my hard drive, shouldn't I?

Well, the good part on that is that I've always been very careful to back everything up before reformatting. The only time I've lost documents was when I first moved from a Mac to Windoze, and that was because my Powerbook somehow got bricked forcing me to build a new computer.

Nowadays we have such things as sixteen gig USB sticks which can store all my documents *and* my KDE theme packages.

I don't remember 6" floppies, but I do remember using 5" floppies that really did flop, and my Apple //e having a casette tape connector and special BASIC handlers for using the tape drive. Back then you had to know a little bit about hardware to run the computer at maximum efficiency.

The design give me the feeling of a quick-strike fighter. If it had a heavy secondary weapon (like a missile launcher under the cockpit), it would be perfect for hit-and-run tactics.

Very nice design, though.

What you see under the cockpit is the Sensor suite. For a Hit-and Run you would want the Lancer Interceptor (looks kinda like a space capable X-29)or the aging but tough Mud-Daubber (Similar to a A-10 Warthog only space capable)

Military versions would have larger plasma cannons and electro-mags and mini-missiles(basically smart mortars). Small scale stuff that don't reduce speed significantly.
